Showcase

This showcase page highlights work I completed during my Master of Arts in Educational Technology (MAET) program at Michigan State University. Below I have organized my work into 3 categories:

In a world that is constantly changing, it is important for educators to keep up with new ideas and concepts. This is why I chose "Technology" and "Professional Learning" as two of my categories. Technology can greatly enhance one's instruction and keeping up to date with new ideas through professional learning will benefit yourself, your students and your school community. I also chose to create a third category titled "Teaching in the Classroom". This theme is important to me because it shows how I can take new knowledge and blend it into my classroom setting.

Network Learning

Have you ever tried to learn something only using the internet? I took on the challenge of learning how to play the guitar using YouTube videos, help forums, and blog posts. This experience showed me how technology can play a major role in learning if used correctly and how that might affect learners differently. I was put into the shoes of my students and realized that I have to be aware of each students' preferred learning styles and be able to accommodate accordingly.

21st Century Learning

Creating a video about 21st century learning helped me take a step back to really analyze learning in a new lens. It made me realize the importance of keeping up with the changing society and bringing fun back into the classroom with inquiry based learning, creativity, and collaboration. This presentation demonstrates my understanding of 21st century learning along with the research I completed to support my understanding.

Repurposing Technology

Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge, or TPACK, shows how 3 knowledge areas work together to make learning more accessible to students. This experience helped me think about how technology was not created for education and that it is my responsibility to repurpose it for my students. I had never considered how cooking utensils could be help get this point across. It showed me that you just need a little creativity to repurpose any technology to benefit students.

Personal Theory of Learning

My personal theory of learning is constantly changing. Writing my theory of learning allowed me to see how one’s view of learning can change so drastically over such a short period of time. This theory of learning showcases snippets of new ideas I learned throughout a semester and how these new ideas impacted the way I view learning.

Wicked Problem: Controversial Topics in the Classroom

While creating this final presentation, I learned about video editing, wicked problems, explaining analyzed data, copyright and media use. I was also able to come up with a possible solution to my wicked problem which was an infographic (linked in my blog post) that could benefit teachers in the future.

The Myth of Learning Styles â€‹

This presentation was created with the intention of using it as a professional development opportunity for my colleagues. While developing this content, my viewpoint on learning styles completely changed. I always learned that you teach to a student's learning style. This project proved this all wrong! Students might have preferred styles of learning, but there is not any evidence to support specific learning styles. Click the presentation above to see the myths of learning styles.

Social Learning Newsletter

This newsletter is a great resource I am able to share with my Junior Kindergarten parents regarding learning through observation. Within this newsletter, I zoomed in on four conditions of observational learning that all work together to lead to student success. I also learned a few new techniques to help improve student learning. Developing this newsletter shows how I can take new knowledge and reformat it into a simple way to share with and educate others.

Re-imaged: Emotional Thermometer

The emotional thermometer pictured above can be found in our Junior Kindergarten room. Each child has their picture that they can move around the thermometer throughout the day to help them express and understand their feelings. I played off of this thermometer and created poems that go with each emotion. These poems are a way for my children to not only learn their emotions, but to understand what each one might feel like.
